Project Overview
Since 1996, Praxis Factor has been collaborating with Onex Neorion Syros Shipyards, a prominent player in the shipbuilding and ship repair industry. Located on the island of Syros in Greece, Onex Neorion Syros Shipyards is known for its extensive services in the maritime sector. The project aimed at upgrading the shipyard’s internal telecoms facilities to enhance operational efficiency and ensure safety.
Project Objectives
The primary objectives of the project were:
- Achieve interconnection with operationally crucial spots for Health & Safety reasons.
- Extend telecom reach to vessel-interior storeys lacking signal or reception.
- Transition from a digital telecom system to Voice over IP (VoIP) to modernize communications.
Our Approach
To meet the project objectives, Praxis Factor undertook a comprehensive approach involving both planning and execution.
Planning & Design:
- Conducted thorough site assessments to identify critical areas requiring interconnection for health and safety.
- Designed a telecom infrastructure plan that ensured coverage in vessel interiors where signal reception was previously non-existent.
- Developed a transition plan from the existing digital system to a modern VoIP setup, ensuring minimal disruption to ongoing operations.
Installation & Configuration:
- Implemented an IP hybrid PBX phone system to facilitate seamless communication across the shipyard.
- Deployed industrial handsets equipped with man-down signaling to enhance worker safety.
- Installed Uninterruptible Power Supplies (UPS) to ensure continuous telecom and network operations, critical for business continuity.
- Established robust connectivity with production lines, ensuring reliable communication on shipyard platforms.
- Integrated call recording and 24×7 central operational call monitoring to enhance oversight and coordination.
Impactful Outcomes
The upgraded telecoms facilities brought several impactful outcomes for Onex Neorion Syros Shipyards:
- Enhanced Safety: The interconnection of operationally crucial spots and the use of man-down signaling significantly improved worker safety.
- Improved Communication: The transition to VoIP and the new PBX system streamlined communications, making it easier for teams to collaborate.
- Operational Efficiency: With uninterrupted power supply and reliable connectivity, the shipyard experienced fewer downtimes and more efficient operations.
- Better Monitoring: The integration of call recording and 24×7 monitoring provided better oversight, allowing for quicker response times to any issues.
